During this period of recovery, Wortham is temporarily closed until the water system is operating at sufficient capacity to support audiences and artists. Events and classes are postponed for the month of October, and we anticipate reopening by November 1.
In the absence of shows, we’ve used our stages to support first responders who continue to work tirelessly to help our area recover from Hurricane Helene. In partnership with the Asheville Fire Department, Wortham staff turned the venue into a distribution center — housing potable water, non-perishable food, clothing, household supplies and personal care items. It’s been an honor to talk with our brave firefighters, to hear their stories and to meet their families. They all deserve a standing ovation for their dedication to Western North Carolina and its recovery. Special thanks to firefighters Tracy Coggins (pictured photo center above) and Zac Bass for their vital roles in making the project a success.
As downtown reopens, we look forward to welcoming you back to the theatre, to offering our community support through the healing power of the arts, and to providing a creative space for local artists to perform once more.
