Connect Beyond takes place on April 22 & 23 and it’s two days of powerful storytelling that inspires personal growth, cultivates creativity and collaboration, and drives social change. There’s film screenings, music performances, book readings, and panel discussions. Here’s a sampling of some of the things you can take in:

Here’s some things that are happening:  

  • A “fireside chat” with investigative reporter and Pulitzer-winning author Megan Twohey (SHE SAID: Breaking the Sexual Harassment Story That Helped Ignite a Movement).
  •  A reading from Terraform, the debut essay collection from musician + activist Propaganda, and a lineup of groundbreaking, culture-shifting films curated. 
  • Propaganda will also be doing a live recording of his podcast, Hood Politics with Dr. Natalie Hopkinson from Howard University. Natalie will be discussing her mission of being 100% Disruptive which includes her co-founding the Don’t Mute DC Campaign to her campaign to end anti-Blackness in the arts and public life. Her work to end the redlining of public art funding while serving on the Commission on the Arts and Humanities for the District of Columbia prompted the Mayor to make a proclamation of PUSHY WOMEN DAY in honor of her and Cora Masters Barry. You don’t want to miss this conversation!
  • Another not to miss piece of programming is a presentation from Dr. Benjamin Gilmer, who will be sharing the bizarre true story behind https://benjamingilmer.com/ (and one of the most popular This American Life episodes ever).  This is a true story of murder, mystery, and a fight for justice right here in Asheville!
  • Mija, a documentary about an ambitious, young music manager whose undocumented family depends on her ability to launch pop stars. When she loses her biggest client, Doris hustles to discover new talent and finds Jacks — another daughter of immigrants for whom “making it” isn’t just a dream: it’s a necessity.
