Pisgah Legal Presents
2022 Justice Forum
October 11, 2022
2022 Justice Forum | Reception 5:30 pm | Forum 7:00 to 8:00 pm
About the Speaker
Pisgah Legal Services is pleased to announce that our 2022 Justice Forum speaker is Dr. Jamila Michener. She is currently a professor at Cornell who studies poverty, racial inequality, and public policy and is also the author of Fragmented Democracy: Medicaid, Federalism, and Unequal Politics. While the discussion at the Justice Forum will be broad-ranging, Dr. Michener will explore the implications for politics, power and democracy when we have a civil legal system that is penetrating people’s daily lives in ways that are profoundly unequal.
About the Justice Forum
Pisgah Legal’s 12th annual Justice Forum will be held in-person at the Wortham Center in downtown Asheville. The pre-event reception will be mainly outdoors (weather permitting) and the Justice Forum will take place in the Wortham Center auditorium. All applicable COVID protocols will be followed. We will have an option for live-streaming for those that prefer to join virtually. We host this event each year to call for justice and to generate honest conversation about pressing local and national issues. This year’s Forum focuses on the intersection of poverty, power, and public policy. Pisgah Legal’s poverty law experts provide legal services to address socio-economic issues such as homelessness prevention, adherence to safe and healthy housing codes, domestic violence protections, and access to healthcare and basic needs.
